Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara Review: Is It Worth the Hype?

Maybelline’s Lash Sensational Sky High mascara has garnered significant attention, with makeup artists and beauty blogs praising its performance. However, not everyone may find it as impressive. Let’s take a closer look at the key features of this mascara and explore its pros and cons.

Maybelline Sky High Waterproof Mascara Review: Key Features Of The Mascara

Maybelline claims that the Sky High mascara delivers “limitless length” and “full volume,” thanks to its Flex Tower brush, which extends each lash and adds volume. Available in Very Black and Brownish Black, the formula is waterproof and contains bamboo extract to prevent smudging and flaking. It’s also ophthalmologist and allergy tested, suitable for contact lens wearers and those with sensitive eyes, with Maybelline assuring easy removal with makeup remover.

Pros:

  • No clumping, and it separates lashes effectively
  • Intense black color in Very Black shade
  • Resistant to flaking and smudging
  • Safe for sensitive eyes, as it didn’t irritate the eyes

Cons:

  • Some users may find it just “okay,” not delivering intense volume
  • There are other better mascaras within Maybelline’s range and superior alternatives
  • Difficult to remove, contrary to Maybelline’s claim
  • The brush may be flimsy, leading to application challenges

Is Sky High Mascara Waterproof? A Real World Review

Having put the Sky High mascara to the test, I can confidently confirm that YES, it is indeed waterproof! Throughout the day, it stayed put on my lashes without smudging or flaking. If you’re in search of a reliable waterproof mascara, Sky High certainly lives up to its promise. Moreover, unlike other waterproof mascaras, this one didn’t cause any irritation to my sensitive eyes.

The Key Details of the Mascara

Now, let’s delve into the specifics of the mascara to gain a better understanding of its performance.

The Brush:

Maybelline dubs the brush as the “Exclusive Flex Tower” brush. It features a slender and elongated design with multiple spikes, designed to separate and add volume to each lash. Many users appreciate the brush’s ability to achieve voluminous lashes. However, I found the brush to be slightly flimsy, not living up to the best I’ve used.

All-in-One Claims:

Maybelline markets this mascara as an all-in-one product that lengthens and volumizes. While it does provide impressive length, I personally didn’t experience the desired level of volume. Perhaps my preference for more curl affected my perception. Some reviewers suggest wiping off excess product from the brush before applying for better results.

More Natural Look:

What disappointed me the most was the mascara’s failure to match the hype around it. Despite applying three coats, my lashes appeared more natural than dramatically voluminous as showcased in various pictures. Though the brush efficiently separated my lashes, I didn’t achieve the extravagant length and volume I had anticipated. Other reviewers suggest adding more coats for a bolder look, but I found three coats should suffice.

Taking Off the Mascara:

One major downside for me is the waterproof formula. Removing waterproof mascara can be a cumbersome task, regardless of the makeup remover’s quality. Even after using makeup wipes and rinsing my eyes with Ponds, traces of mascara remained. Typically, Ponds does an excellent job of removing all makeup, but this mascara proved stubborn.

The Good and the Bad

Now, let’s weigh the pros and cons of the Sky High mascara. While it isn’t terrible, there are some notable highlights. Firstly, the mascara doesn’t clump, and the brush effectively separates lashes. The “Very Black” color offers an intensely deep and vivid shade, and the non-drying formula prevents flaking. Moreover, the waterproof aspect ensures the mascara stays put without smudging. Most importantly, it doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes, which is a significant plus as I rarely find drugstore brands my eyes can tolerate.

On the flip side, the mascara’s volumizing capability falls slightly short, mainly providing length. Furthermore, its challenging removal process may not suit everyone’s preferences. The flimsy brush, while not a dealbreaker, can be a minor annoyance. Overall, there are better mascaras available, including another Maybelline favorite of mine, as well as slightly pricier alternatives worth considering.
